Staying Connected
Trauma Aware
Feeling Grounded

Starting with safety and trust
Children in residential care have often faced instability, loss, or trauma. At JE Community Services, we offer more than just housing — we provide homes where children are cared for by skilled staff who listen, understand, and support them every day.
Stronger Communities, Better Care
How We Give Back Beyond Our Homes
Our commitment to children goes beyond residential care. We work with local communities to raise awareness, support families, and strengthen cultural connections — especially within South Australia's Vietnamese and CALD communities.
Key Areas of Our Work
Where We Focus, and Why It Matters
Residential care isn’t one-size-fits-all. We work with the Department for Child Protection to support children who often have complex care needs, disability, or disrupted placements. Our focus areas reflect where we can make the greatest difference — with culturally safe homes, trained staff on site 24/7, and a strong understanding of how trauma affects daily life.
Safe, supported homes for children and young people under DCP guardianship — staffed 24/7 with trained carers.
Our homes support a wide range of needs, including children with disabilities or developmental concerns.
We have strong ties to the Vietnamese community to help children feel connected to who they are.
How it works
Understanding Residential Care in SA
Residential care is designed for children and young people who can’t live safely with family or in foster placements. It’s provided under strict government guidelines, with trained staff onsite 24/7. Here’s what you need to know about how it works, who it’s for, and what makes it different.
It’s for children and young people under the guardianship of the Chief Executive, Department for Child Protection. Most have experienced trauma, disrupted care, or other challenges that make family-based placements unsuitable or unsafe.
Support is provided by our trained staff around the clock. This includes help with daily routines, emotional regulation, therapeutic care, connection to school and health services, and support with cultural identity, with a particular connection to the Vietnamese community.
Residential care provides a higher level of structure and support.
Our homes are staffed around the clock by people trained in trauma-informed care. It’s most often used when other placements — like foster care — haven’t been the right fit, and involves close collaboration with the Department for Child Protection and other professionals to give children the consistency they need.
How We Approach Our Work
We listen, speak honestly, and recognise each child’s story, background, and identity without judgement.
Culture, connection, and community aren’t extras — they’re built into daily routines and relationships.
Every decision we make puts physical, emotional, and psychological safety first — always.
